Information on Making a Submission
Please read the information below carefully.
If the work has been presented at a previous conference, the submission must represent a serious development beyond that of the previous presentation. BAM retains the rights to the conference proceedings as a whole, whilst authors retain the rights to their individual papers included in the proceedings.
The 2011 BAM Conference incorporates 4 different submission options:
Full Papers
Developmental (Discussion) Papers
Symposia Proposals
Workshop Proposals
All proposals must specify a track, or tracks (see below). No changes can be made to any submission TITLE after the date of submission
Full Papers
You can chose to submit a completed paper by the deadline of Sun day 20 February 2011 . If the work has been presented at a previous conference, the submission must represent a serious development beyond that of the previous presentation.
Your submission will be made to one track only - please select the correct track from the drop down menu on the submission form. On occasion, some papers might be suitable for cross track paper sessions - if you feel your full paper submission is relevant to more than one track please indicate so on the front page of the submission you upload, so the Track Chair is aware.
The full paper will be refereed and you will be advised of its acceptance or rejection by the Track Chair no later than Friday 29 April . If accepted, this could be subject to minor corrections and you will have until Thursday 30 June to make these corrections and upload the final version. This is the final date by which you can submit the revised paper. Papers accepted in this category will be scheduled for presentation in a room with a laptop, data projector and screen and you will need to bring your presentation with you to the conference on a memory stick, along with any hard copies of your paper and/or slides that you might wish to distribute. Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
Length of full paper submission: 5000-7000 words (excluding references)
You will be asked to submit the word count for your paper when completing the submission form online.
Developmental (Discussion) Papers
You can also submit an extended abstract about work that is in its developmental stages by Sunday 20 February 2011 . The purpose of this category is to enable authors to discuss their work whilst it is in its developmental stage, so comments and feedback obtained at the event can be incorporated in the final stages of research and writing up.
Your submission will be made to one track only - please select the correct track from the drop down menu on the submission form. On occasion, some developmental papers might be suitable for cross track paper sessions - if you feel your developmental paper submission is relevant to more than one track please indicate so on the front page of the submission you upload, so the Track Chair is aware.
The extended abstract will be refereed and you will be advised of its acceptance or rejection by the Track Chair no later than Friday 29 April. If accepted, authors will have until Thursday 30 June to make revisions and upload the final version. If you choose to make revisions, your final submission will appear in the online search function and in the conference proceedings. Papers accepted into this category will be scheduled for presentation in ‘round table’ format, and audio/visual equipment will not be provided. You are advised to take copies of your paper and any additional handouts to distribute to your audience.
Length of developmental paper submission: 1000-2000 words excluding references.
You will be asked to submit the word count for your paper when completing the submission form online.
Please do not make a submission of less than 1000 words as it will be automatically rejected. Less than 1000 words is insufficient material on which to base a decision.
Symposium Proposals
You might wish to submit a proposal for a symposium session. Symposia often relate to one or more tracks and generally take the form of panel led discussions. When making your submission online you will be able to select more than one track, if this is appropriate.
Preceded by a 150 word (approx) abstract, the proposal overview should outline the contributors' purpose, format of the session and detail why this is likely to be of interest. The submission will be reviewed collectively but should provide an abstract of each contributors' role or input, together with session timings, highlighting discussion time. The length of the submission should be approximately 1500 words including contributors' abstracts.
You will be asked to submit the word count for the submission when completing the form online.
Accepted symposium proposals will be included in the conference proceedings.
Workshop Proposals
Submissions are also encouraged for workshops. Workshops involve participants in working together on an issue through a facilitated experience.
Workshops can also relate to one or more track. When making your submission online you will be able to select more than one track, if this is appropriate.
In addition to the topic of the workshop, and a statement about why this is likely to be of interest, submissions should specify who will drive the session, the mechanisms by which this will happen and how everyone attending will also be involved. Workshop proposals should be 1000-2000 words and Accepted workshop proposals will be included in the conference proceedings.
You will be asked to submit the word count for your submission when completing the form online.
Selecting a Track, or Tracks, for your Submission
Whilst we are keen to encourage cross-track submissions for symposia and workshops, please ensure you read the notes for each track before making your submission. If you plan to select more than one track, it is advisable to liaise with the Track Chair/s in advance.
Full and developmental paper submissions can only be made to a single track.
Submission Withdrawals
If your paper/symposia/workshop is accepted for presentation and you later discover you cannot attend the event, please ensure you advise the BAM Office of the withdrawal officially via email, at the first available opportunity.
At LEAST ONE author from each submission must have registered to attend the conference by 30 June 2011. If this is not done, the submission will be marked as withdrawn and pulled from the programme. After this point withdrawn submissions will not be reinstated.
