Governance and Structure
Executive Committee
BAM is governed by an Executive Committee and Council of around 30 members. The role of the Executive Team is to manage the Academy Strategy and to oversee the longer term planning and strategic direction of the Academy and ensure an effective interface between the Council and the Academy Office.

Council and Sub-Committees:
BAM Council comprises approximately 30 people elected for a minimum of 3 years by the general membership. The affairs of the Academy are supervised by the Council which meets at least 3 times each year. An Executive Committee of seven people is elected from the Council members to serve as President, Vice President, Chair, Deputy Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary who discuss the direction of the organisation and present policy issues to Council for ratification. The Chairperson usually serves for one calendar year, and is succeeded by the Deputy Chairperson.
Council has the power to:
- Appoint up to 8 co-opted members onto Council to hold office until the AGM the following year, and may be re-appointed for a further year
- Appoint Sub-Committees as seen fit
- Establish Special Interest Groups (SIGs) according to the guidelines
BAM Council has six sub-committees, the purpose of which is to:
- Make recommendations on strategy to Council
- Implement the Academy’s strategy and Council decisions in collaboration with the Executive and the Academy’s Office.
