The SIG Co-ordination Group will endeavour to support SIGs that are struggling to maintain viable levels of activity or membership, but can only do so when they are aware that there are problems.

A key indication that a SIG may be nearing the end of its useful life is the non-production of an annual report in January, however failure to provide an Annual Report with no acceptable explanation gives the BAM Council the right to wind up the SIG in accordance with Paragraph 9C of the BAM Constitution, and notify the last known organisers of their decision.

A SIG which is struggling to remain viable may be best advised to wind itself up, or perhaps to merge with another SIG. If interest and support for a SIG in the same general area grows again in future, an application to start a new SIG can be made in the normal way.

If the Annual Report indicates that there may be difficulties in sustaining the SIG during the coming year, further information will be sought by the Administrator or Co-ordination Group, and discussion between representatives of the SIG and members of the Co-ordination Group may be needed before continued Full approval is given. In these circumstances approval of applications for financial support may be deferred until the Executive Committee is satisfied that funding would be in BAM’s best interests.
