Organisational security – a challenge for business education and research
A research workshop at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow
Co-chaired by Denis Fischbacher-Smith and David Weir
Sponsored by the Organisational Studies Track of BAM
Organisations now face a range of risks and threats that present challenges to management practice and theory. Whilst terrorism is seen by many to be an obvious threat to organisations there are a range of other challenges that include, amongst others, threats from insiders, the problems of managing an extended global supply chain, serious and organised crime, and cyber-related attacks. All of these threats present a number of challenges for business education. The aim of this workshop is to provide some research-led insights into the nature of organisational security and the processes by which managers can design organisations that are able to deal with the insecurities that are generated by the current environment. Topics for discussion include:
- Designing an security-based organisation
- Challenges from hostile actors
- The threats from insiders
- Understanding the impact of Middle East conflicts
- Serious and organised crime
- Responding to the challenges from social media
This event will take place on Monday 11th July 2016, 09.00-17.00.
Who Should Attend
Colleagues with an interest in organisational behaviour and HRM, corporate security, and strategy as practice.
Benefits of Attendance
Attendees will hear from a range of speakers in the area of corporate and organisational security. This is a neglected aspect of the business research and teaching portfolio and yet it is an increasingly important aspect of organisational activities, especially in a ever more globalised setting.
