BAM ISBE Virtual Doctoral Day - Of Systematic Literature Review and the need for Interview Participant Justification: Report-Ability in Qualitative Research

___________________________________________________________________________

Description

The virtual event ‘Of Systematic Literature Review and the need for Interview Participant Justification: Report-Ability in Qualitative Research’ is designed to support our community of doctoral students in spotlighting good practice in doctoral research. Our attempt is to consider the broader relevance and applicability of qualitative research by focusing on the researcher's ability to map and assess relevant intellectual territory towards providing an evidence-based report. In this light, we are interested in two richly distinct but related interactive sessions:

(a) Session one locates the production of the systematic literature review, since most 'traditional narratives' are perceived to lack thoroughness as genuine pieces of investigatory evidence. In this session, we will examine the assumptions and the task of reviewing which are built into the concept of the systematic review.

(a) Session two examines the need for interview participant justification. In this context, we seek to concentrate our understanding on the utility of reporting and justifying the number of interview participants chosen within organization and workplace studies. Acknowledging differences across guidelines, we draw on empirical data from 52 in-depth interviews to operationalise commitment justifications regarding non-probabilistic sample sizes for qualitative interviews.

It is our hope that participants are keen to use this event to evaluate the extent to which they can be applied to produce a reliable knowledge stock. Further along these lines, we acknowledge the support and commitment of the experts facilitating the respective sessions: Dr. Christian Harrison (University of the West of Scotland); and Dr. Kingsley Omeihe (Edinburgh Napier University). These scholars will be sharing their expertise and thoughtful understanding of the various perspectives and approaches represented in this event.
