2017 Directors Report

What happens if women have more power and influence?

___________________________________________________________________________

Description

There is increasing attention on the lack of women at senior levels in organisations. This event looks at the contribution of women to leadership and performance of both organisations and in government. It begins with a keynote from Prof. Virginia Schein, who spearheaded attention on this topic in her seminal paper ‘think manager – think male’ (Schein, V. E. (1973). The relationship between sex role stereotypes and requisite management characteristics. Journal of Applied Psychology, 57, 95–100.) In her talk she examines the latest evidence on the impact of women in top leadership in terms of both decision-making and performance for organisations and governments.

We then have three panels reflecting the experiences, impact and challenges facing women from the worlds of business, governance and the third sector.

Our day ends with a final session on how to best to develop and retain top female talent. Each of the panels includes invited contributions for outstanding women in their fields. The day ends with a networking reception sponsored by the British Psychological Society’s Division of Occupational Psychology.
