BAM Joint Event: Research Methodology Summer School for Doctoral Students

Description

 

This summer school will offer an intensive period of five days, for doctoral students to gain an in-depth understanding about research methodology and methods.

Who Should Attend

 

This summer school is aimed at both full-time and part-time doctoral students from universities across the UK. Applications are invited from doctoral students studying in various disciplines within the field of management studies including Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Organisational Behaviour, Operations Management and Strategy. The applicants will normally be towards the end of their first year of full time study (part-time equivalent).  They would be expected to have a good understanding of the academic literature for their chosen research topic and of the methodology the students plan to employ.

The summer school will cover topics including quantitative and qualitative methodologies and epistemological underpinnings, through keynotes, interactive sessions and tutorials. The students will also have the opportunity to interact with noted experts and fellow doctoral students from the UK universities in a supportive and friendly environment.

As the summer school is in the format of a small group workshops, participant places are limited and allocated competitively. To apply, send a copy of your research abstract (1000 words) containing the objectives, research questions, theoretical perspective, methodological approach, and, epistemological and ontological considerations  and a current CV to the summer school conveners: Dr. Smirti Kutaula, s.kutaula@kingston.ac.uk or Dr. Alvina Gillani, a.gillani@surrey.ac.uk

The summer school is free to attend and kindly sponsored by Kingston Business School and the University of Surrey, Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) and the British Academy of Management (BAM). 

Travel expenses will be the responsibility of the students or their respective institution.

Cancelation Policy - Should you wish to cancel your place, you will receive a full refund if your cancelation is made 4 weeks prior to the event. After this, full payment will be required.  BAM reserves the right to cancel the event if there are not enough people to justify running the workshops.
