BAM Corporate Governance SIG Event: Standards or diversity? The puzzles of corporate governance in the Middle East, Africa, and less developed emerging markets

___________________________________________________________________________

Description

What constitutes best practice in corporate governance has remained elusive, not least in parts of the world with legal regimes, ownership structures, capital markets, and cultures significantly different from those in the developed economies of the West. Meanwhile, standard setters and international investor groups look to multilateral organisations – including the United Nations, the World Bank, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development – and parallels to documents like the UK Corporate Governance Code to provide assurance of good governance.

To explore the institutional and market diversity, and how it affects efforts to create and enforce standards, the British Academy of Management is holding a one-day symposium at Cass Business School City, University of London, on the 16th February 2018. We invite papers from both academics and practitioners.

The workshop will include a keynote address from a leading practitioner scholar, followed by thematically linked paper sessions. The event will take place under the aegis of the BAM Corporate Governance Special Interest Group, and is sponsored by Cass Business School City, University of London whose support we gratefully acknowledge.
