Rethinking Corporate Governance in Unlisted Companies

___________________________________________________________________________

Description

Much of the literature and commentary associated with Corporate Governance is concerned with large public corporations. Although these businesses make a significant contribution to the economy, according to the UK government small and medium sized enterprises, numbering around 5.6 million, make the largest contribution in terms of employment and turnover. Why then are these businesses so poorly served in respect of scholarship concerning the way in which they are "directed and controlled"?

What, for example, is the guidance given by both scholars and practitioners related to codes of practice that offer public corporations extensive advice ,whilst to their smaller counterparts the idea of corporate governance is an enigma to many owner-managers whose personal disposition is basis of direction and control. Furthermore, given the fragility of small companies, the need for meaningful, appropriate and relevant corporate governance is urgent and much needed

This event brings together researchers and academics as well as practitioners and speakers from professional bodies concerned with Corporate Governance to question the current support and guidance given to SMEs and to explore how this sector can become more resilient and benefit from effective corporate governance.

With top speakers from the world of business and academia this is a must attend for those undertaking research into corporate governance, those thinking and writing about corporate governance and those in the boardrooms of SMEs across the UK
