Founded in 1986, the British Academy of Management (BAM) is dedicated to representing and developing the community of management academics and has a membership of over 2000 with 23 Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

BAM is seeking an enthusiastic and able events officer to co-ordinate and support our events programmes with a diverse group of academic stakeholders.

The Events & Networks Officer will liaise with volunteers around arrangements, post events to our website,. They will actively support speakers and facilitators including with slide share when required. For in-person events, the role holder will prepare and dispatch materials, check and manage budgets, and order catering. Sometimes the Events & Networks Officer will attend in-person events to support logistics. The role holder will also support meetings of our SIG and Conference Track Chairs as well as the SIGs sub-committee.

The ability to build and maintain good relationships with our volunteers, some of whom are senior academics, is vital. The Events & Networks Officer will have full oversight of the one-day Doctoral Symposium – from submission handling to programme assembly and logistics - and will provide support to our annual academic conference (950 delegates), supporting the work of our Head of Events & Operations and our Conference & Communications Officer. The Conference and Symposium have been held online for the past 2 years, but we are planning for a return to in-person format from September 2022, when the Conference and Symposium will be held in Manchester. The applicant must be available to attend the Symposium and entire conference (over 4-5 days) at the end of August and beginning of September.

Most of our events are currently held in online format, using standard Zoom webinar and Zoom meetings, and are attracting strong and global audiences from our membership and beyond. We currently stage over 50 events per year. It is expected that most events will remain online, but some will revert to in-person format as soon as the pandemic situation allows.



The successful candidate must have a passion for events and people. A pro-active attitude, a strong work ethic and a creative mind, are necessary as is the ability to take ownership of an area of the Academy’s work. Confidence with running online events is essential. An excellent grasp of English (verbal and written) is essential, as is a clear and confident telephone manner and excellent attention to detail. The successful candidate must be able and willing to travel to events within the UK and stay away overnight on occasion, including for the full extent of our annual Conference.


  • Applicants must have familiarity with the Higher Education community and hold a degree qualification.
  • Experience of running multiple and varying events.
  • Experience in using Windows-based software packages is necessary.
  • Experience with using a CRM database will be an advantage, but full training will be given.
  • Familiarity with event budgets .
  • A good command of English is essential, as is eligibility to undertake paid employment in the UK.
  • Applicants must be able to travel occasionally and stay away from home overnight.
  • Experience of basic image- and video-editing is desirable but not essential.


BAM offers 26 days paid leave in addition to bank holidays; annual leave is not typically approved during August as this is our busiest period building up to our annual conference. Working hours are 35 hours pw. The core team is currently still working mostly from home, with one day a week in the office, which is expected to increase whilst retaining a hybrid element. Our office is located in the beautiful Five Kings House in Queen Street Place, London EC4R within easy reach of Cannon St, Mansion House, Bank and London Bridge stations.
