“What is the role of leaders in dealing with the increasing number of challenges faced by organisations of all types?”
The Centre for Management Consulting Excellence (CMCE) in collaboration with the British Academy of Management (BAM) is hosting the Voices on Leadership series of events aimed at providing answers to this important question.
In the first event of the series, Professor Joanne Murphy will lead an online discussion on the current challenges faced by organisations and the ways that leaders can address the “wicked problems”.
This event is staged by the Centre for Management Consulting Excellence (CMCE) in collaboration with the British Academy of Management.
This event is free, and open to all BAM members.

Joanne Murphy is a Professor of Inclusive Leadership, Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. She holds a PhD from the School of Business, Trinity College, Dublin and is a Fellow of the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Peace, Security and Justice and a Senior Fellow of Northern Ireland’s Policy Think Tank – Pivotal.
She is an academic, consultant, author and speaker. Her research explores leadership, change and organisational development in politically volatile environments, including those affected by ethno-political conflict. She has worked extensively with business, government, not for profits and police and security organisations to build leadership capacity, manage change and achieve resilience.
She publishes regularly in high quality journals including Public Administration Review and the British Journal of Management. Her current research project is entitled ‘A Duty of Hope: The Anglo-Irish Division and the Work of Peace in Ireland’. It documents the activities, development and impact of the Anglo-Irish Division of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs through the prism of peacebuilding and conflict diplomacy. Joanne’s latest book - ‘Management and War: How Organisations Navigate Conflict and Build Peace’ is now available.
