Established in May 2000, the BAM Performance Management SIG is a forum for interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration. We bring together insights from management, strategy, human resources, finance, operations, public services, and related fields to advance understanding of performance at individual, organisational, and societal levels.

Dr Mouhamed Thiam
Dr Mouhamed Thiam has extensive experience as a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, with research interests in performance management, Financial Regulation and the role finance and accounting play in society.
Dr Thiam has contributed to the design of various modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels’ including Compliance and Risk in Banking, Strategic Management Accounting, Contemporary Issues in Islamic Finance, Research Methodology, Investment Finance, Corporate Finance, and more. His dedication and service to higher education have led him to winning and being nominated for various awards, including the award for Inclusion and Diversity in Education.
He is currently the chair of the British Academy of Management’s Performance Management Special interest group as well as an editor at the International Journal of Business Performance Management.
Professor Paresh Wankhade
Paresh Wankhade FAcSS, FRSA, FCMI is a Professor of Leadership and Management at Edge Hill University Business School, UK. He is the Editor-In-Chief of the International Journal of Emergency Services .His research and publications focus on analyses of strategic leadership, performance management, organisational culture, organisational change, and interoperability within the public services. Paresh has published in major journals, including Public Management Review, Human Resource Management, Work, Employment and Society, International Journal of Management Reviews, Regional Studies, International Journal of HRM, and Public Money and Management, along with several monographs on the leadership and governance aspects in emergency services.
Professor Luisa Huaccho Huatuco
Luisa Huaccho Huatuco is a Professor of Operations Management at the University of York, UK. She is the research cluster lead for “Climate resilience and green transition in global value creation”. Her research interests include: sustainable supply chains, management of disruptions to distribution/logistics, high value manufacturing and complexity in the supply chain. She is a former Co-Editor for the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management. She has published in high-ranking journals, including: International Journal of Operations and Production Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Production Planning & Control, and several international conferences. She has also been fostering links with researchers in Latin America and Europe.
Dr Vinh Chau
Dr Vinh Sum Chau is Senior Lecturer in Strategy at Kent Business School. His research and teaching focus on strategic management, performance measurement, and organisational performance, with expertise in strategy implementation and the use of performance systems to support decision-making and long-term success.
He has published extensively in leading international journals, including the British Journal of Management and the International Journal of Operations & Production Management, and is co-author of the bestselling textbook Strategic Management: Principles and Practice, widely adopted in universities around the world.
Dr Chau is Deputy Chair of the British Academy of Management Performance Management Special Interest Group and serves as Area Editor for the European Management Review. He brings extensive experience in strategic performance management, academic publishing, and research leadership, offering valuable insights into developing rigorous, impactful, and competitive research.
Obuks Ejohwomu
Dr. Obuks Ejohwomu is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Sustainable Built Environment and Project Management at the School of Engineering, The University of Manchester. His research advances sustainable and resilient built environments through socio-technical systems thinking, digital innovation, and environmental health. He leads the Future Built Environment Research Group and is Founder and Executive Director of SQUARE, a global consortium deploying low-cost air-quality sensing to improve public health outcomes in the UK, Africa, and Australia. Editorial Advisory Board Member - Building and Environment (IF 7.6), Construction Economics and Building and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology and contributes to several editorial boards and technical committees in the built environment domain. His work has informed policy, including Scotland’s Passivhaus-aligned building standards and housing decarbonisation strategies.
Dr. Ejohwomu has secured more than £2 million in research income and holds intellectual property as part of an EPSRC/NHS Foundation Trust collaboration that developed the award-winning Bubble PAPR respirator, supporting frontline workers during COVID-19 with commercialisation underway.
A University of Melbourne FEIT Visiting Fellow, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed outputs and led major transnational initiatives across Europe, Africa, and Australia. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and award-winning educator, he has supervised eleven PhD completions and actively advises governments and industry on climate-aligned construction, retrofit innovation, and environmental performance management.
Dr Jean Egbegi
Dr Jean Egbegi is a Senior Lecturer in HRM at the University of Northampton. Currently the course leader for the UG HRM course within the Faculty of Business and Law. She is also an academic member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and a Fellow of the Advance Higher Education since 2017
Jean reviews research paper for ABS-ranked Journals and interested in research that explores performance management, especially the informal activities and other HRM-related topics within different contexts.
Mukundrai Maru
Dr Mukundrai Maru is a Business Lecturer at Icon college of Technology and management, London, where he is committed to fostering critical thinking and practical business knowledge among students. As a recent doctoral graduate, his academic and research interests centre on innovation, virtual reality, strategic management, performance management, and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on modern organisations. His work explores how businesses can leverage emerging technologies and strategic practices to enhance organisational performance and competitiveness in dynamic environments.
He has actively contributed to academic research and scholarly discussions through conference presentations and collaborative engagements. He is passionate about bridging theory and practice, encouraging students to apply contemporary business concepts to real-world challenges while promoting innovation-driven learning.
Dr Jennifer Harper
Dr Jennifer Harper is a senior academic leader with cross-sector experience spanning higher education, further education, and partnership provision. Her expertise centres on strategic leadership, workforce development, academic quality, and student experience, underpinned by institutional leadership, postgraduate teaching, and applied research across complex, transdisciplinary environments.
She holds a faculty-level strategic leadership role at The Open University, working at the intersection of people strategy, academic delivery, policy implementation, and student outcomes. She collaborates with senior leaders to embed institutional change, strengthen workforce capability, and deliver inclusive, sustainable provision across the UK.
An active researcher, her work focuses on leadership development, educational policy, and technology-enabled innovation, examining how leadership practices shape organisational capability, student belonging, and sustainable change. She also teaches and supervises postgraduate programmes in leadership, education, and research methods, contributing to curriculum innovation, quality assurance, and partnership governance.
Associate Professor Monica Franco
Monica Franco-Santos is a Reader in Organisational Governance and Performance whose work examines how performance measurement and management systems shape people’s behaviour, performance and wellbeing. Her research focuses on the design, use and effects of performance measurement and management systems and, increasingly, algorithmic forms of governance in private, public and third sector organisations. She is particularly interested in the unintended consequences of these systems, and in how organisations can govern performance without undermining trust, identity and dignity at work.
Monica’s work has been widely recognised and funded by bodies such as the UK research councils (ESRC, EPSRC), ICAEW, CIMA, Investors in People and Advance HE. She has published in leading academic and practitioner outlets and regularly advises organisations on performance measurement, target setting and reward design. Before joining academia, she worked as a consultant at Watson Wyatt Worldwide (now Willis Towers Watson), specialising in compensation and human resources initiatives.
She is part of the teaching faculty at Cranfield School of Management, contributing to the PhD, DBA, MSc and MBA programmes, and is an invited lecturer at several European institutions. Her educational background includes a PhD in Management from Cranfield, postgraduate studies in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management from the University of Barcelona, and a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.
Monica currently serves as President of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, and is a member of the Academy of Management, the British Academy of Management, WorldatWork, the European Academic Reward Network and the Performance Management Association.
Dr Okeoma John-Paul Okeke
Dr Okeoma John-Paul Okeke is a Senior Lecturer in Management (Strategy and Operations) and Global Partnership Lead for the MDIS Dushanbe programme in Tajikistan. He has over eight years of academic experience in UK higher education and international transnational education partnerships, combining extensive teaching, leadership, and industry expertise.
He has held a range of academic leadership roles, including Programme Manager for the Global MBA at De Montfort University Kazakhstan, the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), and BA Business Management at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. His teaching spans strategic management, human resource management, entrepreneurship, leadership, marketing, and research methods.
Dr Okeke holds a BSc in Business Management, an MA in Management, and a doctorate in Human Resource Management with a focus on Knowledge Management. He is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE), and an ILM Endorsed Coach.
He has supervised numerous doctoral candidates to successful completion, examined more than 30 doctoral students, and contributes extensively to research governance and quality assurance. He also serves as an External Examiner at the Coventry University and University of Bedfordshire.
Dr Sree Lekshmi Sreekumaran Nair
Dr Sree Lekshmi Sreekumaran Nair is a Senior Lecturer at Global Banking School, specialising in human resource management. Her research focuses on areas such as organisational culture, leadership, job satisfaction, occupational stress, performance management and artificial intelligence. She regularly contributes to her field through journal publications, book chapters and conference presentations. She is the editorial board member of International Journal of Business Performance Management published by Inderscience Publishers.
Associate Professor Berk Kucukaltan
Dr. Berk Kucukaltan completed his Ph.D. in business management at Brunel University London, with the Dean’s Prize for Innovation and Impact in Doctoral Research in the Brunel Business School. He holds the Associate Professor title in Turkey and works as an Associate Professor at the University of Bradford in the UK. He held visiting fellow positions at universities in France, the UK, Turkey, and Austria. His research interests stretch across performance management and measurement, digital transformation strategies, organisational change management, strategic decision-making, logistics, and innovation and technology management subjects. In practice, he has an active mentorship portfolio for both the start-ups and the established businesses. He has worked with logistics companies, chambers of commerce, and government bodies in different countries to assess their capability and maturity levels for digital transformation strategies and data-driven decision-making. In academia, in addition to his editor roles and editorial board memberships in several journals listed in the Web of Science (WoS), he has many publications in ABS-listed/WoS-indexed journals and in widely known conferences. He delivered keynote speeches at various international conferences and gave sectoral interviews on television channels.
Dr Ozlem Ozdemir
Dr Ozlem Ozdemir is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the DBA programme at the University of East London, specialising in Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Family Business Studies. She has over a decade of teaching experience and a strong background in curriculum design, research supervision, cross-cultural student engagement and academic leadership.
Her recent publications focus on digital transformation, women’s entrepreneurship, leadership, diversity, artificial intelligence and innovation in business and management. She actively contributes to academic research through peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, conference presentations and collaborative research projects.
Dr Ozdemir is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is affiliated with professional bodies including the British Academy of Management and the UK Family Business Institute. Her work combines academic expertise with practical insight, supporting the development of future business leaders, researchers and professionals.
Dr Laila Maazouz
Dr Laila Maazouz is an academic, researcher, and entrepreneur working at the intersection of sustainability management and emerging technologies. She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, awarded the equivalent of High Distinction.
She serves as Programme Manager and Lecturer at UWTSD and holds a lecturing position at Northumbria University, teaching modules including strategic management, sustainability management, and entrepreneurship. She also supervises postgraduate and doctoral students in these research areas.
As a sustainability management consultant, Laila works with SMEs to embed responsible business practices and evidence-based green strategy.
Her research focus includes agentic AI, ESG governance, greenwashing, and sustainable business practice. A regular presenter at international conferences, she is committed to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world business impact.
Professor Jonathan Liu
Professor Liu is an experienced academic leader with over twenty years of success in securing competitive research funding, including awards from the ESRC and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. His work focuses on developing impactful, practice-oriented research aligned with societal and industry needs.
He is Co-Founder and Executive Dean of the International Business School in Manchester, Adjunct Professor at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and Vice Provost and Founding Dean at Elite Innovation College Cambridge. He also serves as Chairman of the Ming-Ai (London) Institute.
An active scholar and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Business Performance Management, Professor Liu has published over one hundred articles and ten books, with research interests in Entrepreneurship, Venture Creation, Heritage Management, and Performance Management.
