Leadership and Leadership Development
The Leadership and Leadership Development SIG seeks to develop alongside this uplift in activity and research with an aim of bringing together the academic and practitioner experiences and viewpoints.
About the SIG
The subject of leadership has created a plethora of publications, research and debate and has become a key issue in both the public and private sectors – a ‘hot topic’. In order to run effectively, organisations are now more than ever looking at their leadership capacity and capability, developing leadership as early as possible in the careers of managers and continuing this development through the life cycle of a career in management. This SIG, therefore, will develop alongside this uplift in activity and research with an aim of bringing together the academic and practitioner experiences and viewpoints.
There also appears to be an increased relevance in leadership and leadership development as an academic subject in university curricula and a rise in the number of doctoral students investigating leadership as a core subject. The LLD SIG therefore will act as a supporting body to those studying, researching and teaching leadership and leadership development.

Dr Kingsley Omeihe
Dr Kingsley O Omeihe is Chair of the Leadership and Leadership Development Special Interest Group at the British Academy of Management. His journey with the SIG began during his doctoral studies where he served as a student representative. Since then, he has grown into the role moving from Treasurer then Vice Chair and now Chair. Along the way he has also served on the BAM Council and chaired the Professional Development Workshop in contributing to the wider work of the Academy.
Over time he has made a quiet but meaningful impact. He has helped raise the SIG’s research profile grow its membership and extend its international reach.
At the University of the West of Scotland, he holds several leadership roles and continues to shape both teaching and research. His wider academic journey includes senior leadership and director roles at the University of Aberdeen and Edinburgh Napier University. Before academia he built a career in banking and as an entrepreneur. And this continues to shape how he approaches leadership today.
King holds a diploma from the University of Cambridge an MBA from the University of Aberdeen and a PhD from the Doctoral College at the University of the West of Scotland. He is the recipient of the 2025 BAM Medal for Communities, contributes as an expert to the United Nations and serves as a Senior Advisor to Moneave on enterprise development.
Dr Ibiyemi Omeihe
Dr Ibiyemi Omeihe is a Lecturer in the School of Business and Creative Industries at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), where she leads the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the MSc Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chain Management, the latter being UWS’s first dual degree. She is an award-winning academic who has been recognised by UWS, the Scottish Association of Minority Ethnic Educators, and the UK Council for International Student Affairs.
Beyond academia, Dr Omeihe contributes to shaping research, policy, and practice through leadership roles in the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, the British Academy of Management, and the Academy of African Studies, nurturing inclusive entrepreneurship, leadership, and education across local and international contexts.
Dr Fiona Creaby
Fiona is a leadership and management academic with a background in executive education and professional development, including global executive MBA pathways, UK degree apprenticeships and Chartered Institute of Management (CMI) programmes. As a senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Metropolitan University, Fiona is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy / Advance HE (FHEA) and a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) with the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS).
As a member of the Decent Work and Productivity Research Platform at Manchester Metropolitan University, Fiona’s research focuses on professional and career development, work-integrated learning and identity studies from a sociological perspective, with an interest in working lives, career pathways, disability and non-traditional routes of learning.
Fiona also has a background in governance as a charity/non-profit board trustee and currently serves as Vice-Chair (Finance and Risk) for the British Educational Leadership Management and Administration Society (BELMAS) and as Honorary Treasurer for Disability Rights UK, a disabled people’s organisation in the UK.
Dr Ijeoma Ukeni
Dr Ijeoma G. Ukeni (fondly known as Ije) is a distinguished lecturer at Huddersfield Business School with extensive research and teaching experience in leadership, ethics, OB and HRM-related studies. As a leadership expert, she is interested in servant leadership and ethics-based leadership philosophies and is open to collaborative and impactful research engagements in related fields.
Ijeoma is a member of the SURGE and CeBAS research centre in HBS. Gaining entrance into HE teaching practice in 2017, Ijeoma has continued to enhance classroom engagement and student retention by being knowledgeable, approachable and supportive of students. Her research also informs her teaching, as reflected in modules (she leads) such as Managing People in International Context, Employment relations, Advanced Organisational Behaviour, HRM practice and theory and Leadership, theory and Practice.
She became a fellow of Advanced HE (FHEA) in 2020 and is currently a member of the Society for Research in Higher Education. She has published articles, book chapters and other pieces and is a reviewer for reputable journals.
Dr Kelly Rogers
Dr Kelly Rogers is Track Co-Chair for the Leadership and Leadership Development Special Interest Group at the British Academy of Management Conference. She is an Assistant Professor of Leadership at the University of Birmingham, based within Birmingham Business School.
Her research focuses on leadership development, leadership journeys, and careers within the Further Education sector, alongside interests in contemporary leadership challenges including “dark leadership.” Her work explores how leaders develop over time and how organisational contexts shape leadership practice and progression.
Dr Rogers brings over 15 years of leadership and management experience in Further Education, where she held senior roles including Head of Higher Education and Curriculum Manager. This professional background informs her research and teaching in leadership and management.
She holds a Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership from the University of Birmingham and is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, as well as a Certified Management and Business Educator with the Chartered Association of Business Schools.
Dr Theano Lianidou
Theano Lianidou is an Associate Professor of Management at Richmond American University London. Her research interests include leadership, social status, corporate social sustainability, and digitalization. Her work has been published in the International Journal of Management Reviews, British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Research, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Managerial Psychology and Leadership. She holds a PhD from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, USA.
