BJM Call for Special Issue Proposals

Process
The British Journal of Management (BJM) invites special issue proposals for an issue scheduled for publication in 2028. The process of selecting the successful special issue proposal will be competitive – all submitted proposals that meet basic requirements will be considered by the BJM Editors-in-Chief (and International Consulting Editors) who will make the final decision.
If your proposal is successful, guest editorial teams will be required to submit the full call for papers within one month of the acceptance date. Please note that we will appoint a BJM Associate Editor to join the special issue team as a full member, who will work with you throughout the process, including but not limited to initial review of the papers and to confirm decisions at each stage of the review and final acceptances. Decisions at all levels will be sent to the Editor-in-Chief assigned to the special issue for final approval. Your submission should, therefore, confirm that you accept these guidelines. The full call will be reviewed and approved by the BJM Associate Editor assigned to oversee the special issue prior to publication.

Decisions expected: 31 October 2026
Full proposal expected: 30 November 2026
Proposal published online: December 2026 (or as soon as full proposal is accepted)
Please note the responsibilities of guest editors include handling all submissions, communicating with authors, inviting reviewers and making recommendations on each article using ScholarOne Manuscripts and the special issue team will be required to adhere to the usual BJM criteria for handling papers, including standards of correspondence, turnaround times and the peer review process.
Proposals may be submitted for consideration from 1 September 2026.
Required content
Proposals should include the following within a maximum of two pages (excluding any references, tables, figures):
- Objectives: A clear statement of what the special issue aims to achieve.
- Contribution, Timeliness and Relevance: An explanation of the special issue's anticipated theoretical contribution, timeliness, and practical significance, situating it within current debates in the field and advancing scholarship.
- Fit with BJM: A clear and compelling case for why BJM is the right home for this special issue linking the proposal to the Journal's aims, scope, and readership
- Editorial Team Suitability: Why the guest editorial team is well placed to lead the issue, covering relevant expertise, track record, international reach, and how the team's strengths complement one another.
The proposal should be accompanied by supplementary materials, which do not count towards the two-page limit:
- A cover page stating the title of the proposed special issue and the full names and institutional affiliations of the guest editorial team.
- You should confirm that the members of the team will not be committed to other special issues in other outlets for the editorial process period of the proposed special issue.
- A short biography (maximum 100 words) and email address for each member of the editorial team.
Required format
Proposals must use 12-point Times Roman font and be single-spaced, with 1 inch / 2.5cm margins. Where helpful, tables may be used and these should be included within the text. Maximum 2 pages.

Late submissions and the ones which do not follow the formatting and submissions guidelines will not be considered.
