Call for Nominations for the John G. Burgoyne Memorial Prize for Management Learning

We are delighted to announce that nominations are now open for the John G. Burgoyne Memorial Prize for Management Learning; an annual prize of £4,000 to be awarded for an outstanding contribution to management learning over a sustained period.

This award, in memory of Professor John G. Burgoyne, a Fellow of BAM who sadly passed away in April 2023 and who left a significant academic legacy in advancing management learning, aims to celebrate those making a significant and sustained contribution to the field. We thank John’s widow Trudi Wakeman, who has generously funded the award.

This award adopts a broad conceptualisation of management learning, covering all aspects of learning and knowing in management and organizations. This award looks to recognise research that engages in disciplinary, trans or inter-disciplinary dialogue and is open to a range of methodological and theoretical approaches.

Importantly, this award seeks to recognise innovative, high-quality work derived from critical, imaginative and committed inquiry, that builds new ideas and developments relating to theory, pedagogy and practice. The nominated research might address local, regional, national or international and/or multi-cultural aspects of management learning; should be integrative, linking research, theory, methods and practice; and impactful, inspiring scholars within the field of management and organization, as well as policymakers and organizational practitioners.

Nominations (including self-nominations) may be submitted by any BAM member. Each nomination must include a statement outlining the case for support, along with a short CV (maximum four pages). Nominations will be reviewed by the BAM Awards Committee in association with the Co Vice-Chairs for Management Knowledge and Education (MKE). Please note that nominations are only accepted for active BAM members who have made a significant and sustained contribution to management learning.

All nominations must be made via the nomination form and be received by Lewis Johnson [email protected] before 17:00 (UK time) on Friday 24th April 2026.
