Description
The aim of this workshop, “Challenges and solutions for mainstreaming enterprise/entrepreneurship education across the university”, is to discuss solutions to the challenges of ensuring all students have the chance to gain entrepreneurial skills. The economic impact of both the Covid-19 pandemic and the upcoming Brexit indicate more than ever the necessity for businesses to change their strategy and adapt their ways of creating value. Entrepreneurship and the development of an entrepreneurial mindset has never been so important to equip young leaders of the future to be flexible and react quickly to changes in business and society.
Thus, this workshop discusses ways how all students can develop an entrepreneurial mindset and offers examples of successful solutions to the challenges senior university managers and academics might face. These examples come from the various perspectives of our panel speakers here today and of the European Commission.
As the 2020 winner of the British Academy of Management Award for the Experienced Teaching Practitioners, Dr Inge Hill was invited to organise a workshop that discusses her life-long passion and advocacy for developing the entrepreneurial potential.
In Dr Hill’s presentation, “Why embed enterprise/entrepreneurship education across the university – a journey on mainstreaming a citizenship skill”, she is delighted to share insights of her journey and learning since 2002.

Biography notes of speaker and panel members
Dr Margherita Bacigalupo is a research fellow at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. She leads the work on the European Entrepreneurship Competence Framework (EntreComp), published in 2016. For the past four years, she has been promoting its take-up. In collaboration with international researchers, she compiled examples of use through EntreComp into Action (2018) and EntreComp at work (2020). She has looked into its usefulness for informal learning sector through the Entrepreneurial Employee in the Public and Private Sector (2020). She has also co-authored the EntreComp Playbook (2020), to support educators embed entrepreneurial learning practices in their portfolio. She is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs.
Dr Inge Hill is the British Academy of Management 2020 Award winner of the Management Education Practice Award for Experienced Teaching Practitioners. She is Associate Head for Research, Business Engagement and Knowledge Exchange at the School of Business and Entrepreneurship at the Royal Agricultural University. Her entrepreneurship research is rooted in practice theory and informs her teaching and business engagement. Inge had a varied career in private, public and Third Sector organisations and has been successfully serving as non-executive director on non-profits for over 10 years. Inge is Chair of the BAM Strategy Special Interest Group and Director of Enterprise Educators UK.
Professor Paul Jones is the Head of the Business Department at Swansea University's School of Management and Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He is an experienced academic manager and researcher and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research and Associate Editor for the International Journal of Management Education.
Professor Nick Petford is Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University of Northampton. Nick is a former Royal Society University Research Fellow and Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge. A geologist by training, with a DSc from the University of Liverpool, Nick has worked in industry and on academic and commercial research projects throughout the world. He has held visiting research appointments at the Universities of Michigan and Vermont and NASA and is currently visiting professor at Macquarie University, Australia. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School.
