Call for Chapters: Cases on Entrepreneurship and Diversity

Background

Diversity in all it’s guises has been increasingly at the heart of Entrepreneurship. Research has focused on various ethnic minority groups, some established such as Asian entrepreneurs where emphasis has been on the challenges they have faced to become an increasingly important part of the entrepreneurial story. Rags to riches legends encapsulate immigrant entrepreneurs. The waves of refugee entrepreneurs shed light on forced migration. Looking more deeply, there are geographical and spatial issues as to where they have built their businesses, many still relying on co-ethnic customers and supply chains. Certain cities are more responsive to creating structures to support these businesses.

Female entrepreneurship has played a pivotal role, as has gender in general. Far more sophisticated research goes beyond the start up struggles and deprivations. Abilities and disabilities, particularly following the pandemic, play an increasingly important role.

This book of cases on diversity and entrepreneurship will reflect stories of real life entrepreneurs. This is particularly relevant for the diverse groups of students we, as educators, are dealing with at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as executive education. They can more easily relate to this material and be

inspired. Greater emphasis on the decolonization of the curriculum calls for more diverse cases to be published, reflecting the richness and strengths of diversity and the particular issues facing these businesses. Sometimes double and even triple discrimination hamper progress and it is educating and enlightening to learn how individuals, groups and communities have dealt with issues to pursue entrepreneurship, be it enforced or a positive choice.
