Peer review volunteers play an important role in supporting Conference Track Chairs in making decisions about the submissions (accept or reject), and helping authors improve their conference paper submissions. A good conference paper reviewer can be at any stage of their career although undertaking peer review processes for a conference such as the BAM conference can provide Early Career Researchers with an opportunity to build confidence and go on to perform peer review processes for scholarly journals.
This participative workshop will discuss the steps involved in the conference paper review process, how to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of papers, and how to build a constructive set of feedback comments. Specialist breakout room opportunities will enable participants to focus on reviewing a specific type of manuscripts: (a) qualitative, (b) quantitative, (d) mixed methods and the newly launched session on (e) literature reviews and theoretical papers, exploring the different ways in which you might write constructive peer review reports for literature reviews/theory papers.
This will include themes such as the evaluation of the paper’s conceptual contribution, coherence of arguments presented, positioning within the literature etc. For literature reviews, we will also examine approaches you might use when evaluating different literature review methods.

The workshop is focused on the reviewing process and how it may be improved, thus any scholar may benefit from it. We envisage that Early Career Researchers or those newer to the review process (e.g. Doctoral Students at advance stage of studies) to benefit in particular.
