Professor Pawan Budhwar
Pawan Budhwar is the 50th Anniversary Professor of International Human Resource Management at Aston Business School and the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor International, Aston University, UK. Between September 2020 – April 2023, he was Head of Aston Business School. He is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Human Resource Management Journal, a Consulting Editor of Journal of International Business Studies and is globally known for his research in the fields of strategic and international HRM, digitalisation, sustainability and emerging markets. He received his doctorate from Manchester Business School, UK in 1998. He has published over 160 articles in leading journals and has also written and/or co-edited over 31 books.
Pawan is the co-founder and first President of Indian Academy of Management, an affiliate of Academy of Management. He has served as an advisor to the Commonwealth Commission for six years and as a co-editor-in-chief of the British Journal of Management for 7 years (2014-2020).
He is the Co-Vice Chair Research & Publications of the British Academy of Management, the Governing Board Member of Centre for Responsible Business (India) and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK), Higher Education Academy (UK), the British Academy of Management and the Indian Academy of Management. He has received millions of pounds of research grants over the years and numerous awards for his contributions to the field of business & management, including the International Federation of Scholarly Management Award in 2022 for Exceptional Services to the Management field worldwide and British Academy of Management Medal for Research Leadership in 2021. In 2023, he was rated 4th in the World Top Business & Management/ Human resource Management Scientists.
Pawan has served or sits on a variety of national and international advisory panels, has presented at the UK Parliament on India-UK trade relations, and was part of the UK government’s Department of Business & Trade Higher Education Mission to India in September 2023.
Professor Stephanie Decker
Stephanie Decker, FAcSS, is Professor of Strategy and Deputy Dean at Birmingham Business School. She has contributed substantially to interdisciplinary research that draws on historical knowledge to expand and problematise management knowledge.
This research stream was recognised in the REF 2022 panel report for its contribution to the theoretical sophistication of business history. Her work spans methodological and theoretical issues, as well as empirical research on the role of international business in global contexts that are often underrepresented in business research, such as Africa. She has been joint editor-in-chief of Business History since 2020.
As co-Vice Chair for Research & Publications at the British Academy of Management, she has developed BAM’s Open Access strategy to support the continued excellence of our journals, British Journal of Management and International Journal of Management Reviews, as well as supporting the further development of the BAM research grants scheme.
She co-authored the BAM Guide to Decolonizing the Business School Curriculum with the BAM Vice Chair for Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity & Respect and continues to champion interdisciplinary research in business, management and beyond
Dr Soumyadeb Chowdhury
Dr Soumyadeb Chowdhury is Associate Professor at TBS Education in Toulouse, France. He specializes in artificial intelligence, digital sustainability and responsibility, and the applications and implications of emerging technologies across domains including operations, supply chains, human resources, and strategic management.
His expertise extends to psychometric scale development, and interdisciplinary research design and methods across varied organizational and societal contexts. Dr Chowdhury brings an outstanding blend of scholarly research excellence, large-scale, multi-country projects, editorial experience and award-winning management education.
His research has been supported by major international funding bodies including UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the British Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Academy, and the French National Research Agency (ANR). He has also partnered with global businesses and leading think tanks such as the World Economic Forum, advancing dialogue between academia, industry, and policy. His work has shaped debates on emerging technologies, the circular economy, and digital sustainability. He has consistently earned international recognition and awards for excellence and innovation.
Syed Quiser Ahmed
As the head and founding member of Responsible AI Office at Infosys, Syed Quiser Ahmed is passionate about driving positive change in the world of AI. In his present role, Syed helps enterprises and CxO's overcome the risks of AI.
With a focus on responsible and ethical AI adoption, Syed collaborate closely with government bodies, policy makers, influencers, think tanks, industry bodies, and academia to pave the way for future where AU benefits society as a whole.
He has led research teams monitoring trends and new developments in industry, implement tools and solutions to improve/streamline existing machine concepts, and strengthened service offerings around Responsible AI including competency development, IP development, incubation and scaling
This white paper is the first of the series, focusing on the responsible use of AI in research. It represents an enormous effort in bringing together the evidence in this dynamic field and distilling this to provide practical guidance for our community.
By developing a range of initiatives, we aim to privode rigorous evidence and case study examples of how AI might be used in academia, as well as sharing practical guidance to help academics use AI responsibly.
