This session, hosted by Professor Carley Foster, will offer attendees an overview of the REF process with a particular focus on how outputs are evaluated. It is aimed at those new to the REF assessment but also those who want to refamiliarise themselves with the framework.
Our main speaker Professor Sally Dibb, will offer insights based on her experience as the REF Deputy Chair of Business & Management. As Professor of Marketing & Society she will also share tips based on her experience of reviewing outputs in marketing

Prof Sally Dibb is a Research Professor of Marketing and Society at Manchester Metropolitan University. Formerly, she has been a faculty member in the Centre for Business in Society at Coventry University, at the Open University and at Warwick Business School.
In 2022, Sally received the Academy of Marketing Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to marketing education. Sally has been appointed as Deputy Chair of the REF2029 Business and Management Panel, having served in the same role for REF2021, and as an Output Assessor on the REF2014 panel. Recently, she co-chaired the Business and Management Panel in the People, Culture and Environment trial for REF2029. She was an international panel member for the last SAMEVAL Norwegian Research Council national research evaluation.
Sally is a member of the newly established UKRI Interdisciplinary Assessment College, a reviewer for the Australian Research Council and for the Canadian Research Council, and a Fellow of the British Academy of Management Peer Review College. Her research interests are in social marketing and marketing strategy, with recent work examining issues linked to financial wellbeing, sustainability and digital vulnerabilities.
Sally has received funding from the ESRC, EPSRC, EU, Leverhulme Trust, Aviva Foundation and Barrow Cadbury, amongst others. Her publications have appeared in journals including, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science; Public Administration Review; British Journal of Management; Governance; European Journal of Operations Research; Work, Employment and Society; Tourism Management and Sociology.

Professor Carley Foster is conference track chair and secretary for the Marketing & Retail SIG. She is Professor of Services Marketing and Head of the Centre for Business Improvement at the University of Derby.
Carley has also been the unit of assessment lead for Business & Management Studies at her institution since 2017. She has published widely in the areas of retail, marketing and professional doctorates including publications in the British Journal of Management, Studies in Higher Education, Journal of Services Marketing and Journal of Place Management & Development.
She has received funding from a number of organisations such as the ESRC, Innovate UK, British Academy, Academy of Marketing, NICRE and SAMS. She works closely with industry, particularly business support organisations, sitting on a number of boards such as Visit Peak District & Derbyshire and the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (Derby).

Please be aware that delegates are always responsible for ensuring their own travel and accommodation against cancellation, and the British Academy of Management is not able to reimburse anyone for these under any circumstances.
