Situating patriarchy: Contextualising oppression

Staged by the BAM Gender in Management Special Interest Group

This webinar discussion brings together situated discussions about patriarchy to help us to better grasp the contextual complexities of inequalities and gendered dynamics at work.

Discussions about patriarchy have been central to the understanding of how gendered power relations are structured and normalized, shaping economic, political and social life. More recently, amidst questions about reconfigured inequalities, discussions have called for more the recognition that there are many patriarchies and that their understanding is essential to advance more nuanced understandings about gender oppression.

These discussions highlight the need to engage with different theoretical conceptualisations and epistemological approaches to go beyond universalised understandings of oppression

This conversation will be facilitated by Dr Jenny K Rodriguez (University of Manchester), Chair of the GiMSIG and Dr Elisabeth Anna Guenther (University of Vienna), Secretary of the GiMSIG.
