Day 1: DRIVING SOCIAL VALUE ACROSS DISCIPLINES
Monday 18th July, 10am – 2pm
Universities now need to understand the impacts they create with their stakeholders, including local communities. Day 1 of this global symposium focuses on understanding the changes stakeholders want to see in their lives as a result of the work of universities (including through their courses, projects and research). Stakeholders will include academics from across disciplines, students, research participants and the communities which universities impact (e.g. Liverpool residents). When identified, these changes form the basis of what is valued in a holistic account of social value.
This symposium will underpin the work of, and launch, a new Academic Social Value Thought Leadership Group.
Day 1 opening talk: Driving social value through universities – teaching, research, exchange
Day 1 sessions:
1. What is already being done in terms of social value in the universities? - discussion
BREAK
2. What more can be done: what should be continued, stopped, started?
LUNCH
3. What action or commitment can we make? (plus opportunity to express interest in joining the Academic Thought Leadership Group)

Day 2: EMBEDDING SOCIAL VALUE IN BUSINESS SCHOOL EDUCATION
Tuesday 19th July, 10am – 1pm
Responsible management, ethics, and corporate social responsibility are now commonplace curricula topics in business schools. Despite this, curricula which enables learners to practically understand value more holistically and from the perspective of stakeholder groups remains scarce. This global symposium provides a unique and innovative collaborative development space to pinpoint ways to integrate the principles and processes of social value methodology into a variety of business school curricula spaces across the globe. These spaces include, for example, undergraduate and postgraduate modules, courses, capstones, projects, and dissertations. The symposium will bring together academics, students, and the communities which universities impact, to inform new guidance to accelerate the introduction of social value in business schools.
Day 2 opening talk: Practicalities of social value and business school curricula spaces
Day 2 sessions:
1. What specific social value processes are already in place and working well in your context?
BREAK
2. What might an ideal curriculum look like which embeds social value processes in your context – and – what would need to change to facilitate it
LUNCH
There is no session after lunch on day 2 so for those attending online the symposium closes once we have fed back and summarised session 2.
