What if ….?: Why reflexivity is a key component in teaching and creating a sense of belonging when working with large diverse groups of students

Staged by the BAM Management Knowledge and Education (MKE) Sub Committee

The aim of the event is to present the value of reflexivity in contemporary higher education. Teaching students to become more reflexive can enable them to develop confidence, create a sense of self, and a feeling that they belong in the classroom. This workshop will also initiate a discussion around understanding various approaches to reflexivity and how to engage in reflexive conversations in our management education and learning practice.

The session will present four key elements to a successful sense of belonging

  • How teaching reflexivity to students can develop our graduates of the future and contribute to developing a sense of belonging in the classroom - WHY
  • Assisting students to learn how to be reflexive and why it’s important: Skills to succeed - HOW
  • Developing academic staff teaching capability in the skills of reflexivity - ENABLE
  • Enhancing academic staff own self development, reflexivity and self awareness - DEVELOP
