Webinar synopsis
Leadership plays a significant role in organisational change, especially in times of crisis. Often portrayed in the literature as a top-down practice with formal leaders making decisions that flow almost effortlessly and seamlessly down a hierarchy yet are perceived and reacted to in different ways by organisational members.

This is in sharp contrast to the view that the process of leadership is essentially ‘a shared experience, a voyage through time, with benefits to be gained and hazards to be surmounted by the parties involved’ (Burnes et al, 2016:1).

The problem of leading in crisis as experienced by those involved can be seen in terms of a need for individuals who can lead in crisis. Crisis can be viewed as a development in an organisation. Therefore, it is arguably the responsibility of leaders to know how to influence and push for change in times of crisis, so as to reform and reshape their organisation.

Of particular interest is leadership in Higher Education (HE). This workshop will provide theoretical and practical discussion of leading in crisis in research and teaching within the context of HE. It welcomes active discussion around the topic with reflective analysis at the personal and organisational level.
