Staged by the BAM Management Knowledge and Education Sub-Committee
The British Academy of Management (BAM) invites you to submit a ‘Marketplace’ topic for the upcoming BAM MKE Teaching Practice Conference 2026, taking place at Salford University over two days in June.
This exciting event will bring together educators to explore the evolving landscape of management education and its role in shaping the future. Unlike traditional academic conferences, this event takes an informal approach: instead of a full academic paper, you are invited to submit a short ‘Marketplace’ topic to share and discuss with a group of like-minded educators. For details, please see the submission guidelines.
Conference Theme: “Harnessing the value of Management Education Research to shape positive futures”
In today’s rapidly changing business environment, management educators must adapt and innovate to prepare future leaders for complex societal challenges. This year we are excited to have a Keynote Presentation from Professor Katy Mason, PVC & Dean of Salford Business School who will celebrate the contribution of pedagogy and highlight the centrality of management education research in the business school agenda.
The conference theme encourages participants to reflect on the role of pedagogy within business schools and consider how their teaching and scholarship can positively influence the future.
We welcome submissions on any topic relevant to teaching practice for example:

Keynote: From Practice to Publication: Decoding Research Excellence in Business and Management Professor Rick Delbridge, Professor of Organizational Analysis at Cardiff Business School and Chair of REF sub-panel 17 (Business and Management)
Professor Katy Mason, PVC & Dean of Salford Business School
This keynote session promises to illuminate the pathway from scholarly inquiry to published output. Professor Rick Delbridge will share insights from the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise to unpack the defining characteristics of high-quality research and explore how originality, significance, and rigour are used as evaluation criteria. To bring these insights to life, Professor Katy Mason will then present a real-world case, demonstrating how pedagogy in business practice can be systematically theorised and developed into work of publishable quality.
This keynote is designed to be interactive, with time for audience questions and discussion. Whether you are an early-career educator/ scholar seeking direction or an established academic refining your craft, this session offers invaluable perspectives on what makes scholarship in our field truly excellent.

At the BAM MKE Teaching Practice Conference, we will:
There will be opportunities to explore how we can influence others in relation to learning and teaching. At the end of the day, you will leave with plenty of ideas about developing your own practice and added confidence to actively influence your colleagues and institutions.
Participation in BAM MKE Teaching Practice Conferences provides credit towards a BAM MKE Scholary Educator Award.
This conference is designed to be interactive and supportive. We invite participants to share their experiences of how everyday practices of university teaching and learning impact the lives of their students and colleagues. The conference will be a supportive place to do this and learn from others.
We will be offering ‘market-place’ tables for conversations around key themes identified from your submissions. There will also be opportunities for sensemaking, imagining what teaching might look like in the future, exploring the changing roles of educators and students, as well as opportunities for personal action-planning.
The intention is that this day of learning and networking will support you as practitioners, educators and as ‘academics’ to grow one or more communities of practice. Our vision is to meet needs for practice development across management education in a way that is inclusive, practical and highly engaging.
There are a range of ways in which we can both enhance impact and use our work to develop our careers. This conference is therefore designed to support you by creating a space for discussion and reflection on how your impactful practice can be disseminated. We aim to design a number of opportunities to share practical ideas about how we can do this, thus benefitting both the field and our careers. Last year our ‘meet the management journal editor’ session was well received. This year we are looking for ways to build upon this. Publishing in journals is just one way to be impactful. More information will follow nearer the event.
