Description

This interactive on-line event is designed for those interested in submitting to the BAM Conference and/or the associated Special Issue of the Journal of Management Development (Emerald). Participants will hear directly from the Guest Editors and Symposium Chair about what they are looking for in conference and journal papers, with practical guidance on how to enhance submission quality and likelihood of acceptance.

Each Guest Editor will briefly introduce their focus and what they are looking for, followed by small-group and one-to-one breakout discussions on participants’ ideas and extended abstracts. Contributions are encouraged at the levels of analysis below:

Macro level (societal/planetary)

  • P1 Strategic Leadership (SL) capability development for managers can be a force for ‘good’ in facilitating a flourishing world in a troubled and depleted earth requiring rapid turnaround and innovative solutions (Giacalone and Promislo, 2013; Shin et al., 2022).
  • P2 Biodiversity loss and extinction reflect anthropocentric assumptions that limits leaders and professionals to engage with planetary health and multi-species justice (Kopnina, 2025)

Meso Level (industry, organisational, community)

  • P3 SL capability development can be applied systematically and systemically in attempts to resolve or mitigate common, complex and disruptive challenges in novel and re-discovered ways (PiwowarSulej and Iqbal, 2023; Nelson and Shilling, 2018) Micro level (individual/behavioural level)
  • P4 SL capability development can have agency through the enactment of managers’ specific personal values, morals, behaviours, decisions and actions by those possessing benevolent influence (individual and collective). (Aitken et al., 2023; Carroll, 1991; Schwartz, 2007; Watton et al. 2019).
