Multi-stakeholder initiatives (MSIs) have become an important tool for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) (UN, 2015). As one of the UN SDGs, Goal 17 (Partnership for the Goals) targets strengthening of the collaborative approaches and partnerships in driving and providing resolutions to sustainability challenges.
Presented jointly by the BAM Sustainable and Responsible Business and Inter-Organisational Collaboration SIGs, our event will provide an opportunity to explore theoretical and methodological approaches to understating the nature and the challenges of multi-stakeholder collaboration for Net Zero.
This event offers a number of leading-edge research presentations in the areas of: mechanisms for collaboration as part of MSIs, policy and practice gaps on collaboration for Net Zero, interpersonal dynamics and conflict resolution in collaboration.

Professor Emma Macdonald joined Strathclyde as Charles Huang Chair in International Business and inaugural Director of the Stephen Young Institute within Strathclyde Business School.
Emma was at Cranfield School of Management for a decade, holding a number of different roles including coDirector of the Cranfield Customer Management Forum for nine years and leader of Cranfield's popular Customer Centric Strategy programme for five years. Emma was Head of the Sustainability and Marketing faculty groups when she left Cranfield to join University of Warwick. As Professor of Marketing at Warwick Business School for four years, Emma led on the prestigious London MBA receiving multiple teaching commendations and an award for pastoral care.
Emma’s research in sustainability and marketing has been published in Harvard Business Review, and in top-ranked journals including Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Service Research, Journal American Statistical Association, Industrial Marketing Management, Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Technology Forecasting & Social Change.

Dr Shova Thapa Karki is an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Sustainability at the University of Sussex Business School.
She is an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in the intersection of entrepreneurship and sustainability exploring the circular economy at city level and social and sustainable entrepreneurship. Shova has a track record in knowledge exchange working with circular business communities in Brighton and Hove, the Brighton Chambers, and the local council.
She has served as a member of the Circular Economy oversight board at the Brighton and Hove city council and the Greater Brighton Food Economic Board’s (GBEB) Food Plan Task and Finish Group.

Dr David F. Murphy is Associate Professor of Sustainability & Collaborative Leadership and Academic Lead of the Initiative for Leadership & Sustainability (IFLAS), University of Cumbria.
Externally David is Co-Chair of the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership and represents the university in the Lancashire Climate Action Network (LancsCAN) – two vibrant examples of collaboration for net zero in North West England. David also has extensive international experience of working on multi-stakeholder engagement, partnering and business sustainability with senior leaders and change agents in business, government, universities NGOs, and the UN system, including related teaching, applied research and consultancy on partnerships for sustainable development.
David is currently working with Futureproof Cumbria on the development of a series of pilot Decarbonisation Policy and Practice Briefing Papers for the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership. Other recent projects include ‘Strengthening Cumbria's Civil Society’ with the Office of the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, Cumbria Development Education Centre (CDEC) and Thinking Philanthropy; and a series of research and knowledge exchange projects on the transformational potential of partnerships for the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Dr Polina Baranova is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Sustainability and Doctor of Business Administration Programme Leader at the University of Derby. She is Co-track Chair of the Sustainable and Responsible Business Special Interest Group (SIG) at the British Academy of Management. The expertise of Dr Polina Baranova lies at the intersection of strategy, strategic management, and environmental sustainability.
Dr Baranova’s research looks into SME approaches towards environmental sustainability and the relevant environmental strategies. Her recent publications are in the area of green growth, decarbonisation and pro-environmental enterprise support. She is specialising in the development of environmental capabilities and working with a wide range of policy, business and societal stakeholders towards supporting sustainability transitions in the region and beyond. The recent publications are in the Journal of Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of British Academy, Local Economy, and International Review of Entrepreneurship.

Professor Qile He, also known as Horace, is a Professor of Strategy and Performance Management at the University of Derby, UK. He was previously a Reader in Operations Management and the Associate Head of School for Research of the School of Strategy and Leadership at Coventry University, UK, successfully leading the school research portfolio.
His research expertise and interests are in the area of interfirm alliances and partnerships, innovation strategies and processes of organizations, as well as sustainable and responsible business, and inter-organizational knowledge transfer. He has published over 80 papers in refereed journals, books, and leading international conference proceedings.
