Unusual Research Methodologies: The Paths Less Trodden

In our BAM 2020 Project Experiences Associated Event back in September the Editors-in-Chiefs of the leading journals in our field (IJPM, PMJ, IJMPB) expressed their concerns about the limited variety of research methods utilised in project studies. Following their plea for more diversity we would like to facilitate a discussion around this topic and 'explore paths less trodden' in terms of research methods. A key element of this event will also be networking as we have noted that this is something which we all have lacked over the last few months of virtual working.

Description

In our BAM 2020 Project Experiences Associated Event back in September the Editors-in-Chiefs of the leading journals in our field (IJPM, PMJ, IJMPB) expressed their concerns about the limited variety of research methods utilised in project studies. Following their plea for more diversity we would like to facilitate a discussion around this topic and 'explore paths less trodden' in terms of research methods. A key element of this event will also be networking as we have noted that this is something which we all have lacked over the last few months of virtual working.

After a scene setting by Prof Naomi Brookes and Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger (track co-chairs), Prof Tyson Browning, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Operations Management (JOM, ABS 4*), will share with us the expectations towards research methods for JOM followed by a Q&A. We will the hold a 20 minute coffee networking break in small groups followed by three 'soundbites', i.e. short 10 minutes presentations which will introduce research methods rarely used in project studies. This will again be followed by a 20 minutes coffee networking break and we will then invite an editor's comment and closing remarks.

14:00 - 14:20 Scene setting (Prof Naomi Brookes and Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger)
14:20 - 15:00 Research methods for JOM (Prof Tyson Browning, Editor-in-Chief Journal of Operations Management)
15:00 - 15:20 Coffee networking break
15:20 - 16:00 Soundbites
16:00 - 16:20 Coffee networking break
16:20 - 16:40 Editor's comments
16:40 - 16:45 Closing remarks (Prof Naomi Brookes and Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger)
