Call for Expressions of Interest

Hosting the BAM MKE Teaching Practice Conference 2027

The British Academy of Management (BAM) Management Knowledge and Education (MKE) community invites expressions of interest from academic institutions to host the BAM MKE Teaching Practice Conference 2027.

The Teaching Practice Conference is a key annual event within the MKE community, providing a forum for educators, researchers, and practitioners to share innovative teaching practices, pedagogical research, and new ideas for advancing management education.

The conference typically takes place during the first few weeks of June and is usually held over one and a half days, preceded by an informal conference dinner the evening before. The event typically attracts approximately 80–150 participants. The proposed format may be subject to minor revisions following feedback from this year’s conference.

UK- based academic institutions (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) interested in hosting the 2027 conference are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to Justina Senkus – [email protected] by 15 May 2026. Hosting the conference provides an exciting opportunity for your institution to work with the British Academy of Management to contribute to excellence and career development in teaching and learning.

Successful applicants will be asked to provide a letter signed by a PVC or equivalent Confirming the institution’s financial or other contributions and the likely costs charged to BAM. Closer to the event, a contract will also be signed with the host institution.

Information to Include in the Proposal

Expressions of interest and subsequent proposals should include the following information:

  • An indication of a single overarching theme, with sub-themes to be defined at a later. Please explain the rationale for it’s relevance to the MKE community.

Venue

Costs

The aim is to keep participation fees as accessible as possible, and therefore complimentary or reduced-cost access to facilities would be greatly appreciated where feasible.

We would also welcome information on:

  • The range of local accommodation options available to delegates and approximate price ranges.
  • Accessibility within and around the venue, including wheelchair access and public transport connections.
  • Any institutional support for the conference (financial or in-kind).
  • Potential sponsorship opportunities.
  • An outline of a risk management plan.
  • The existing engagement of BAM members at the host institution and potential for future involvement.

BAM is committed to promoting sustainability across its activities and welcomes proposals outlining how the host institution could support environmentally sustainable conference practices.

Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity, and Respect (EDIR) are central to BAM’s strategy. Hosts are encouraged to outline how EDIR principles will be considered in the organisation and delivery of the conference.
