The Corporate Governance & Financial Management - Annual Conference 2026, organized by the BAM Corporate Governance and Financial Management SIGs, provides a forum for academics and practitioners interested in topics of financial resilience, sustainable governance and risk management. It aims to encourage interdisciplinary thinking and collaboration across fields that span corporate governance, financial management, risk management, international business, regulations, decision sciences, and economics.
We welcome empirical, methodological, and theoretical research across all areas of financial resilience, sustainable corporate governance and risk management. For this conference, there is special interest in research examining the challenges and opportunities facing corporate governance and financial management in an era of digitalisation and technological transformation amid geopolitical risk and uncertainty.
Accordingly, the conference’s main theme is related to Financial Resilience, Sustainable Governance and Risk Management (how financial management, corporate governance and risk management have changed in response to digitalisation and technology transformation, within the global geopolitical risk and uncertainty).
However, we welcome all research in various topics of financial management & governance related areas, as well as pedagogical research focused on innovative methodologies and best practices in teaching corporate governance, financial management and supervising research

Konstantinos Stathopoulos holds a Chair in Accounting and Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School. and an Otto Moensted Visiting Professorship at Copenhagen Business School. He currently serves as the Vice President of the International Corporate Governance Society and Chair of the BAFA Corporate Governance Special Interest Group. During 2019-2024, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of Corporate Governance: An International Review, the leading academic journal for international corporate governance research.
Konstantinos has more than twenty years of experience conducting research across most areas of corporate governance, with a particular focus on executive compensation and how suboptimal governance practices may destroy stakeholder wealth. His recent focus is on the interests and impact of various stakeholders, such as employees, on firm decision making and governance.
He has an extensive publication record, and his work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed academic journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance: An International Review, among others.
His research has received several awards from various organisations such as the American Law and Economics Association, British Accounting and Finance Association and Eastern Finance Association.

Professor Geoffrey Wood is Professor and DanCap Private Equity Endowed Chair, and Department Chair DAN Management at Western University in Canada. Previously, he served as Dean and Professor of International Business, at Essex Business School and before then as Professor of International Business at Warwick Business School, UK. He has authored/co-authored/edited eighteen books, and over two hundred and twenty articles in peer-reviewed journals. Geoff's research interests centre on the relationship between institutional setting, corporate governance, firm finance, and firm level work and employment relations.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, and a Fellow of the British Academy of Management, and is also in receipt of an Honorary Doctorate in economics from Aristotle University, Greece. Geoffrey Wood is Editor in Chief of Human Resource Management Journal. Previously he has served as Editor in Chief of the British Journal of Management (official journal of the British Academy of Management and of the Annals of Corporate Governance (official journal of the ICGS). He is outcoing editor in chief of the Academy of Management Perspectives (official journal of the Academy of Management). He also edited the Chartered ABS Journal Guide ranking list for ten years. He has had numerous research grants, including funding councils (e.g. ESRC), government departments (e.g. US Department of Labour; UK Department of Works and Pensions), charities (e.g. Nuffield Foundation), the labour movement (e.g. the ITF) and the European Union.

Dr Maggie Xiaowen Gao is an Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance at Greenwich Business School of the University of Greenwich. She is a Senior Fellow of the Advance-HE and is also recognised as a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) by the Chartered Association of Business Schools. She was awarded Qualified Securities Analyst by the Securities Association of China (SAC) and Qualified Managerial Accountant by the Ministry of Finance China (MoF).
Maggie teaches a wide range of modules in Accounting, Finance and Economics in the UK and internationally and is the international lead for a large number of TNE partners. She currently serves as an external examiner for the University of Surrey and the University of Southampton.
She is co-chair of the BAM’s SIG for Corporate Governance. Her research interests span from corporate governance to technology-enhanced learning.

Yan Wang is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance at Nottingham Business School, NTU. Yan’s research interests are focused on corporate governance and sustainable finance and in particular board networks, executive compensation, disclosure, board diversity and CSR. Yan has articles published in leading international journals, such as the International Journal of Accounting, Journal of Accounting Literature, Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Journal of Finance and Economics, Energy Economics, Economics Letter, Journal of Environmental Management, European Management Review, Journal of International Management, International Marketing Review, among others. His research has been awarded externally including British Academy of Management (BAM) and Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS). Raphael Markellos is Professor of Finance at Norwich Business School, University of East Anglia, and a member of the Centre for Competition Policy and the Centre for Science and Policy at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on information finance, estimation risk, and environmental finance, with early contributions to the application of AI and big data in financial analysis, including pioneering work using Google Trends. He is a Faculty Advisor for Harvard Business Publishing and a Fellow of the British Academy of Management, and currently co-leads the World Economic Forum Executive Opinion Survey for the UK. With over 25 years of academic and industry experience across Europe, the US, and Asia, he has advised on cost of capital, innovation, and fraud detection in regulated sectors, and his work is widely cited in academic and policy circles and featured in major international media.

Dr Laima Spokeviciute is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Cardiff Business School, with research expertise spanning banking, corporate governance, and financial decision-making. Her interdisciplinary work integrates perspectives from economics, regulation, and organisational studies, with a particular focus on bank performance, stability, and financial crises.
She has an established publication record in leading journals such as the Journal of Banking & Finance and The British Accounting Review, and actively contributes to the global research community through editorial roles, conference leadership, and international collaborations.

Hossein is an Associate Professor of Financial Technology at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), The University of Manchester. Prior to this role, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at Cardiff Business School, University of Cardiff, and before that, he held a similar position at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds. Hossein holds a PhD and MSc in Finance, as well as a BSc in Computer Software Engineering. Prior to his academic career, he spent five years working in the financial industry. His research focuses on Blockchain Technology, Cryptocurrencies, Market Microstructure, and Algorithmic and High-Frequency Trading.
He is the founder and creator of the Cardiff University Bitcoin Database (CUBiD), a pioneering platform that provides access to structured raw and post-processed data on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
He is an associate editor at the journal of Research in International Business and Finance (RIBAF) and the Journal of Economic Survey (JES).
